Susan's training as a marriage and family therapist emphasizes relational understanding. Her specialty is in the science of the complex and often subconscious patterns of interacting with our most intimate partners we refer to as attachment theory. She has expertise in healing the effects of trauma on individuals and couples, as well as unlocking the grip of anxiety in people's lives. She was trained in clinical psychology at Wheaton College which specializes in the integration of faith and psychology, and has served in ministry roles prior to and alongside her work as a therapist. With over 20 years of experience working with couples and individuals, people describe her as engaging, direct, able to zero in on and understand core issues quickly, and providing practical steps towards change. She has training under Dan Siegel, Sue Johnson, Milan and Kay Yerkovich, as well as Family Systems and Brief Strategic approaches. Susan loves decorating and creativity, the mountains and nature, walking, and spending time with her friends and family.
David and Susan's approach to the skills taught in Couples Breakthrough are largely based out of the latest research in interpersonal neurobiology, attachment and emotionally focused therapy. Both David and Susan have individual practices in the Bay Area and Truckee.
